How do your clients know that your learning interventions work?
It is important for us to understand the organisation's aspirations. Our work is designed to achieve that aspiration, not just a list of skills and subject knowledge. So, the learning is evaluated primarily by the degree to which the organisation achieves its aspirations.
Does that mean that you do not use evaluation forms after learning events?
That depends. If the client wishes to assess the motivation and interest of participants in relation to programme modules, then assessment of this kind can be included. If the client wishes to evaluate the effectiveness of learning on the participants in their work, then that can be assessed as soon as participants start to integrate their learning into their work.
Do you use feedback about your learning designs?
Yes, we are always interested in ways of improving our learning interventions and seek feedback through direct discussion with participants and those around them.
Do you teach these evaluation methods?
We will often teach managers and leaders the benefits of effective evaluation, and the pointlessness of evaluation that is not well thought through. We will explain how different evaluation methods provide different information.
As with many aspects of our delivery we would include this as the direct experience of a live issue, raising a discussion about the benefits, or not, of evaluating their own learning.
